The Hydroponics Specialist is responsible for assisting the Lead in all aspects of the Ascension Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF) greenhouse operation dedicated to producing food crops, including managing plant cultivation, environmental controls, staff, harvest schedules, and quality standards to ensure consistent and high-yield food production, while adhering to safety and sustainability practices.

This position is contingent based on contract award.

Responsibilities
Major Job Activities:
+ Knowledge of plant physiology, hydroponic equipment, and data analysis to optimize yields and production efficiency.
+ Shall provide a monthly report of food production and food purchased locally.
+ Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting hydroponic systems including pumps, filters, lighting, and nutrient delivery mechanisms.
+ Keep growing areas clean to prevent disease and pests.
+ Ensure equipment is clean, maintained, and safely stored.
+ Monitor plant health and growth, addressing issues like pests and diseases.
+ Manage and adjust nutrient solutions and water quality.
+ Oversee all stages of the growing cycle from seed to harvest.
+ Conduct regular quality checks on harvested produce to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
+ Monitor and record data on plant growth, yield, and quality metrics
+ Stay updated on new technologies and sustainable farming practices in greenhouse production.
+ Responsible for proper utilization and safeguarding of all government and contractor provided property (e.g., to include government facilities, equipment and tools).
+ Responsible for precise execution of company time reporting procedures and accurate completion of timesheet.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Material & Equipment Directly Used:
+ Hydroponic System Specific Equipment, Water Pump, Computer, Cell Phone, Vehicle, MHE, and other office equipment.
+ May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE-ex: gas mask, steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, etc.) as needed.
Working Environment:
+ Working conditions will change between environmentally controlled office commercial hydroponic greenhouses, and storage activities exposed to outside environment. Overtime and shift work may be required depending on contractual needs. Employee must comply with all Federal, State and Local regulations and published Company work rules as well as written instructions. Task specific work environment training will be provided as required. Must be prepared to function in a wartime environment to support U. S. interests. 100% Overseas Assignment.
Physical Activities:
+ Medium work. May include lifting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Climbing, extended sitting, and standing, stooping, stretching or bending. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE-ex: gas mask, steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, etc.) as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Must have a current, valid Passport, Driver's License and have ability to obtain any visa required
+ Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
+ Must be able to pass employment and deployment qualification requirements that include psychological, medical, dental, drug testing, background checks, etc.
+ Candidate should be other country national (OCN) or local national (LN)
Education / Certifications:
+ Must have a High School diploma or equivalent, associate degree preferred in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field
+ Must have and maintain a current Serve-Safe certification
Experience / Skills:
+ A minimum of two (2) years' experience in commercial greenhouse operations, particularly with food crop production
+ Strong understanding of plant physiology, pest management, and disease control
+ Ability to work independently and to use own initiative.
+ Good communications skills both oral and written.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production deadlines
Budget Responsibilities:
+ Monitor and record data on plant growth, yield, and quality metrics.
+ Develop and manage greenhouse budgets, including cost control measures for inputs like fertilizers, seeds, and utilities.
+ Maintain accurate inventory records of plants, supplies, and equipment.
